why is the CDC lowering developmental milestones?

Good morning,
The CDC just changed the developmental milestones for children, and the shift raises serious concerns.
Instead of expecting babies to say their first word at 12 months, that milestone has been pushed to 15 months.
The expectation for two-year-olds to form sentences has been downgraded to just two words.
Even more concerning: over 200 milestones have been removed, including crawling, a key indicator of cognitive development.
The CDC has also eliminated the expectation for three-year-olds to speak in full sentences and hold conversations.
what’s going on?
Despite technological and medical advancements, children are developing more slowly than ever. The potential causes?
Lockdowns and reduced social interaction
Excessive screen time replacing active learning
Nutritional deficiencies impacting cognitive function
why does this matter?
Lowering the bar for child development isn’t just a technical update—it’s a reflection of a declining standard for early childhood growth.
This should not become the new normal.
Instead of adjusting expectations downward, we should be focusing on addressing the root causes to ensure kids are developing optimally.
