Why do some people binge while others don’t?

Good morning health hackers,
Have you ever wondered why some people can binge on an entire chocolate bar, while others are perfectly content eating just one square and saving the rest?
The answer lies in your DNA.
the role of dopamine and your genes
Dopamine, often called the "feel-good" neurotransmitter, influences how we experience pleasure, reward, and drive. The DRD2 gene, also known as the “addict gene,” controls how your brain processes dopamine.
Depending on your genetic variation—GG, AG, or AA—your brain’s dopamine receptors can be:
GG (the binger): Your brain is highly sensitive to dopamine. You feel intense pleasure and reward, which can lead to binging on enjoyable activities. In the right environment, this makes you a goal-setting machine. But in the wrong one, you may struggle with obsessions.
AG (the balanced): You’re in the middle. Your dopamine levels are balanced, making you less prone to extremes. You can enjoy life’s pleasures without overindulging.
AA (the seeker): With fewer dopamine receptors, you might constantly seek more to feel satisfied. This can push you toward addiction, but it also means you’re driven to succeed in business, fitness, or personal goals when channelled correctly.
working with your DNA
Understanding your genetic predisposition isn’t about labelling yourself—it’s about tailoring your environment to work for you.
For example:
If you’re AA, focus on structuring your life with healthy challenges and rewarding goals to channel your intensity into positive outcomes.
If you’re GG, create boundaries to prevent overindulgence while leveraging your natural drive for productivity.
Your DNA gives you a blueprint, but how you use it is entirely up to you.
